All undergraduate students entering Duke Kunshan University enter without a major and are assigned an academic advisor. Before declaring a major, students work with their academic advisors, and potentially others to develop a long-range academic plan, explore degree options, select a major, and choose appropriate student success strategy to navigate college. Students develop personal academic plans that lay out future courses being selected over remaining semesters and is reviewed by advisors to confirm such courses will meet established requirements for graduation.
Once you declare your major, you will be assigned an additional faculty mentor (whom may be your current advisor) to get discipline-specific academic advice and coach you through your Signature Work. Specifically, Faculty mentors help students identify major questions, problems, or issues on which they would like to work, and to develop a pathway that includes three thematically linked courses drawn from students' interdisciplinary studies, disciplinary studies or electives, one or more co-curricular (Practice-Orientated Education) experiences, and two capstone courses in which a student creates a substantial scholarly or creative signature product.
