Tim Kwang-Ting Cheng is a chair professor and the dean of engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Cheng will give an overview of the research vision and objectives of the AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems (ACCESS) and highlight a couple of its research projects. ACCESS is a multi-disciplinary center for advancing integrated circuit design and design automation technologies to enable next generation data-centric computing paradigms supporting a wide range of AI applications. The center focuses on developing specialized/customized AI chips, and corresponding design methodologies and tools, to facilitate further AI revolution. The goal is to grow an IC design and EDA ecosystem, specific to AI applications, in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The research agenda in ACCESS addresses several key technical areas including enabling technology for emerging computer systems, architecture and heterogeneous system integration, AI-assisted EDA for AI hardware, and hardware-accelerated AI applications.
