Duke Kunshan has expanded its undergraduate student recruitment activities in China to four new areas: Jiangxi and Heilongjiang provinces, and the Inner Mongolia and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous regions.
The expansion, approved by the Ministry of Education, means students in 22 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the Chinese mainland can apply to the university using the Slate application system. The application deadlines for those taking the 2021 national college entrance examination (the gaokao) are Jan. 3 and Feb. 18.
Duke Kunshan aims to recruit 240 mainland students for its incoming Class of 2025. It also welcomes outstanding applicants from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and countries around the world.
‘DKU’s undergraduate program has enrolled three classes since its launch in 2018, with many students attracted by our innovative liberal arts education, small-sized classes, academic advising, research opportunities and interdisciplinary approach,’ said Luke Li, dean of China enrollment management. ‘In 2021, we’ll continue to recruit outstanding high school graduates with diverse talents and the potential to become the leaders of tomorrow.’
The university uses a 5:4:1 model to evaluate mainland applicants: Their gaokao score accounts for 50 percent; independent assessment, 40 percent; and High School Academic Proficiency Test score, 10 percent.
Undergraduate students at Duke Kunshan have the option to spend a semester and a summer session at Duke University’s Durham campus. Upon graduation, they receive degrees from both Duke Kunshan and Duke, and automatically join Duke’s vast global alumni network.
