Level 3

Research data which if disclosed could cause risk of material harm or legal liability to individuals or Duke Kunshan University. It includes any research data classified as Level 3 by an IRB.

Examples:

Research data containing personally identifiable information and not classified in Level 4, Duke Kunshan IDs when associated with information that could identify individuals, or any other personal data protected under Chinese laws and regulations and not classified in Level 4 or 5.

Storage Options:

Information designated Level 3 must not be stored on user devices, or portable media, unless the device or media is encrypted.

Research data designated Level 3 or higher may only be used, stored, or processed on devices, servers or services that comply with Duke Kunshan University research data protection requirements. Click here to download the Research Data Storage Charts.

Retention:

Researchers, or the responsible investigators, have the obligation to ensure that, for all aspects of their research programs, sufficient records are kept to document the experimental methods and accuracy of data collection as well as the methods and accuracy of data interpretation.

Research data should be archived for a minimum of five years after final reporting or publication of a project (or longer if required by an external sponsor, law, rule, or regulation).  View Duke Kunshan Policy on Research Records: Sharing, Retention and Ownership (log in needed).

 How to Comply:

If you use an electronic device to collect and/or store Duke Kunshan Level 3 research data, you are responsible for ensuring it is secure and properly encrypted.  If your device is not encrypted and it will be used to collect or store research data, please contact Duke Kunshan’s IT Service Desk.
